The other day was Good Friday and today is Easter. This time of year is always a reminder of what Jesus did for us. How he was led to the cross like a lamb to the slaughter. He died for the sins of of everyone. And now we can be in relationship with God once again. Sometimes you can get so caught up in the chocolate/Easter bunny side of Easter, that you forget what it's all about. Or if you have grown up in church, it just feels like repitition again. But Easter is really important. And it's such a good reminder of what Jesus did for us, because it really is amazing. And we didn't deserve it. Thanks Jesus!!
So there has been a lot going on since I last posted. Last weekend we went out to Hirokata for the weekend to visit the Hirokata Christ Church. We stayed in a house (which used to be a bar) that is right beside the church. On Saturday night we visited the public baths (for the second time..ack!!!) and then on Sunday we spent the whole day with the Church family, having a Church service, then lunch with everyone. There are a couple international students who are attending a University in Japan, and attend the church. So we spent the afternoon with them, as well as two kids, Shyrio and Tzuniki (I think the spellings are really off...). We got a tour of the University campus and got to ask them a bunch of questions about Japan. Then we had supper with the people at Church (or whoever was still left) and then visited the baths again. It was a really good day, and we could all sense that God was at work among that congregation of people. This church is celebrating their 20th Anniversary very soon and they have a theme verse for it: Isaiah 43:19 "See, I am doing a new thing, do you not perceive it?". I thought it was quite fitting.
Then on Monday we spent all day touring Kyoto, visiting several shrines and temples and castles. It was very interesting, but also very sad to see people worshipping there. They dont' even know what they're worshipping. I just prayed for people as we walked through.
Then we went and did some shopping, and then once again visited the public baths. It was an experience that's for sure. But I must say it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.
On Tuesday we visited one more castle and then Laurence picked us up. It felt like coming home again, which was a good feeling.
This week we have been delivering lots of fliers in hopes that people will join the english classes we are starting up soon! Pray that the right people would come and this would be how they become interested in coming to Church, and accepting Christ.
On Friday morning we learned how to ride the bus, then then delivered fliers, as we did on Saturday also.
Then today was Easter, and we went to the service. We performed our drime, and the service was good. It's awesome how people can worship God in any language. But I did miss my home Church. After the Service we had lunch with the people, and then had a little carnival with games and a pinata. It was a lot of fun!!!
For Easter supper, we had sushi! It was really good.
Anyways I think I am going to read before bed. It has been a long day!!
