AMAZING TREK!!!

Saturday morning at 5 am the TREK Interns, SonJa and Amy, ran into our room and told us we had seven minutes to get ready and be downstairs or there would be consequences. We were quite flustered and half asleep, but we jumped out of bed and got dressed and ran outside. We were told that we would be participating in TREK's version of the Amazing Race!! This was the beginning to a very long, wet, but fun day! We had to do many tasks throughout the day. Some of the included:
- eating rice and a 2 litre of pop with a can of sardines for breakfast.
-literally looking for a needle in a haystack
-taking fun pictures
-eating dried squid
-serenading a former trekker on his balcony with a song that we made up on the spot
-fishing out gummy worms from a bowl of chocolate pudding and then fishing them out of a bowl of rice crispies (and yes EVERYONE used the same bowl!! ewww!!!)
-going to a sikh temple and eating there
-getting dropped off in Surrey and taking the sky train to Vancouver
It ended with us getting on the Seabus to the Longsdale Quay where we ended. And my team won! Go team Japan!!!
That was a pretty exciting and exhausting day. It rained pretty much all day so we were soaked almost the entire time. But it was fun.
The point of the day was to test us in our teams; to see how we work together under stress and being tired. I think that our team pulled together really well, and we pretty much got along all day. There wasn't ever really a time when I woudl say that we didn't get along. That is very encouraging because we are bound to experience stressful days while we are in Japan, and if we can learn to work with eachother despite that, that is awesome!!
All together I think we were going for about 13 and a half hours that day. Whew! I can see how the real amazing racers get exhausted and pick fights with eachother. I think we persevered through it pretty well, but I would not want to do it every day that's for sure!
Hopefully once I get the pictures for Darlene I will be able to post them!!
